A modern-day tale of seeking fortune in the West Texas oil rig world. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a Landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases, so they can extract oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of the excavation machinery and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and facilitator. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated an 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the embarrassing and overly sexualized daughter and boy. ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose to the plot and are just downright annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. As a man from the far West Texas myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a sense, but this is awful. The women of West Texas are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Other than that, the writing and acting are terrific. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on her hands if she gets rid of the very awkward inter-familial arousal. But then again, love me some Sheridan writing (and acting) and an absolutely very enjoyable show, for the most part.
