It already features Jinx and the city of Piltover. Riot was so impressed with the work that they asked Fortiche to create an animated series that took them several years to complete. After the release of the first series, Riot announced that there would be a second series, and that its production would take less time. This has no right to be as good as it is. I mean, it’s based on a video game, since when has that ever led to anything better than passable? But still, it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. I just watched the first episode of the new Wheel of Time adaptation and disappointed with that one I was looking for something else and just happened to see that it had good reviews. I quickly grew on it and devoured the entire season in one sitting. Arcane does everything right that so many shows and movies get wrong these days. They respect all their characters, make sure you understand why they do what they do and that you sympathize with them. They take just enough time to draw you into the story and world before the major plot twists happen so you really feel their impact. They set things up well in advance and make sure to give you a fair reward so that nothing feels rushed or cheap. And something that is very rare these days; they are not afraid to give all their characters flaws and allow them to fail, regardless of their gender or strength. This is a show with two main female characters who can both overpower anyone and neither of them feels like they deserve it. And they never once feel the need to disparage the men to show how cool they are. Pay attention, creators of other shows, this is how you write strong characters regardless of gender that your audience can feel invested in. Special mention goes to the animators. Kudos to you for being able to create characters who can communicate both strong and soft feelings more clearly than most real actors can. And kudos to the voice actors and music, both of which are top notch. Overall, it’s a very enjoyable show that gives me a glimmer of hope for future entertainment, looking forward to season 2.
