A Tale of New York Written by Jem Finer, Shane MacGowan with The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. Spies, London, Keira, Ben, quality cinematography, a beautiful soundtrack – what could go wrong? Plus, I already know this is my favorite genre, and I won’t notice any flaws.
I was wrong
But when the dialogue in episode 1 was slow, a few moments dragged on too long, and Quinten’s test dialogue scenes left me with little to no peace, I found it hard to relax. They really just build the characters and set a unique tone. As the episodes dragged on, I realized that this series wasn’t going to make it.
Not only was it unconnected, but it also had little to no real interest in the characters I actually cared about
I honestly don’t know how magic works, but I was drawn to the stories and characters in Slow Horses, The Americans, Le Bureau, The Diplomat, and even The Old Man—for all their flaws. Add to that the lack of stakes and the many minor details that are overlooked, and the ratio of annoyance to interest was too high to be enjoyable. Yes, all the key spy elements are in Black Doves, but somehow the recipe lacked salt, and by E03 I was already cranking up the playback speed.

I’m so sad about what could have been.. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month.
