During the original Karate Kid shoot, the late director John G. The team behind Cobra Kai dug into the studio vault and found a ton of never-before-seen clips, which they were able to sneak into the series via flashbacks. One of them includes Zabka’s real mom, who was in the stands from multiple angles that hadn’t been seen until 2018.

Many people believe that Miyagi’s name on his gravestone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994), his name is listed as Keisuke, but it was actually previously shown on a sign held for him by Chozen in Karate Kid 2 (1986) to be Nariyoshi. This means that it was The Next Karate Kid that changed his name, while Cobra Kai kept the name previously given for him. Another interesting fact, however, is that the name given in The Karate Kid Part II was not the original given name. Miyagi.
I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying Cobra Kai
In Karate Kid (1984), it can be briefly seen on Miyagi’s dog tags, attached to the keys to the 1948 Ford given to Daniel for his birthday, that Miyagi’s first name is Hideo. Featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Anthony Mackie/Ralph Macchio/Kiry Shabazz (2018). At first I thought it was going to be a cheesy kids show. Not so, any fan of the original trilogy will love this.
He’s absolutely the star here!
The story takes place 34 years after the events of the first movie and the 1984 All Valley Karate tournament. It follows a bad luck affair for Johnny Lawrence (William Zavala) as he tries to straighten out his life and opens the famous Cobra Kai dojo. This reignites his rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). I can’t say enough about how good Zabka is here.
I promise you’ll love it!
It’s too bad he hasn’t become a bigger star over the years because he shows that he can run the show here. Again, if you’re a fan of the original trilogy, check this out. I look forward to more seasons in the future.
