The show moves the setting to the present era
Tale
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by executing murders for the highest price. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “The Day of the Jackal” is set in 1963 and involves an assassination attempt on the then President of France, Charles de Gaulle.

I love what they have attempted to do. How can an assassin remain anonymous and untraceable in the modern world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, monitoring of communications, digital transactions, etc. Etc.
There is a lot to like in each episode
The attempt is imperfect, but please tell me any show or movie that has succeeded and I will watch it immediately. However, the main story telling is interrupted by the inclusion of the M16 agent family drama, which feels like filler that has been included to satisfy a stereotypical screenwriting “principle”. I am skipping these unnecessary scenes in order to keep the main story lines moving along at a proper pace.
don’t mention the bullets
I am halfway through episode 4 and appreciate the effort and intention. Also, I love the neckerchief nod to the original film and the update on the sniper rifle – the suspension of disbelief turned up to 11 by the fact that this goes through airport x-ray screening, not to mention the magic suppressor for supersonic bullets and the inability for anyone to smell a recently used firearm 🙂 Shhh… Anyway, imperfect, but I will watch to the end and appreciate the effort, and look forward to the choices they have made to tell an interesting story.
Finding it this season was a plus
