Gender takeoff in the original 1986 TV series of the same name, Matlock ( 1986), starring Andy Griffith in the lead role of criminal lawyer Ben Matlock.

For legal reasons, they had to give Dean Hargrove “based on the series Matlock”; credit.. In order for Matlock to be hired by a New York law firm, they had to verify her license status through one of three official mechanisms, each carefully managed by the state.
A remake of Matlock (1986)
Not sure what the detractors saw, but I just watched the pilot "sneak peek" and thoroughly enjoyed it. Since Kathy Bates asked that the ending be kept secret, I won’t go into details.
She is desperate for a job and has an amazing way to get out of security at a very powerful law firm
Maybe my age (78) is one of the reasons I like it so much, just as I really enjoyed the original "Matlock" with Andy Griffith. "Maddie Matlock" is a very interesting character – an old lady ex-lawyer (25+ years ago) whose late husband cheated on her and left her in a lot of debt, who is raising her brooding grandson as her daughter died of drug addiction.
I am looking forward to the start of the season in October
